Saving Energy @ EhB

We too will take a number of steps to keep energy bills from getting too high. We are counting on your cooperation for this as well.

What will change?

  • From now on, the heating will be set to 19°C max during the day. This will significantly reduce our gas consumption.
  • We close a number of campuses during the lecture-free weeks. There are always work and study places on certain campuses for the staff and students respectively.
    • Fall Break (31/10-4/11)
      • Closed campuses: Kaai (except block C), Kanal, Jette and Leuven
      • Open campuses (except 1/11 and 2/11) :
        • RITCS
        • KCB (unlike the rest, also open on 1/11 and 2/11, from 08u till 6pm, and the rest of the week)
        • Kaai-block C
        • Bloemenhof: Study landscape open from 08h30 to 17h as study space for students; Teacher's landscape open from 08h30 to 17h as work space for staff.
    • Winter vacation 26/12-6/1:
      • Closed: Kaai, Kanal, Jette, KCB (Main building), RITCS (both), Leuven, Bloemenhof (from 26/12 to 30/12),
      • Open (from 2/1/23 to 6/1/23)
        • Bloemenhof: Study Landscape open from 8:30 am to 5 pm as study space for students; Teacher Landscape open from 8:30 am to 5 pm as work space for staff.
        • KCB Kleine Zavel from 10 am till 6 pm

These closures will then be evaluated with a view to further leave periods in 2023.

What do we ask of you?

In addition to these measures, there are also individual good practices, for you as a student.

Heating

  • Set the radiator valve to the middle position (no higher, no lower) and leave it that way when leaving the room.
  • Make sure the radiator is clear, do not put anything against it or in front of it.

Ventilation

  • Use the CO2 meter to check the air quality in the room.
  • If necessary, ventilate the room by briefly opening the windows, and then close them again when the CO2 levels are ok.
  • Close the windows anyway when you leave a room.

Avoid wasting energy

  • Turn off lights when you leave a room.
  • Unplug devices that use a lot of energy when they are not in use, e.g. drink and snack machines on weekends, ...
